Cardiff, United Kingdom

18 – 20 October 2023

The international conference on increasing the impact of scientific knowledge and data through (long term) engagement between the science-ecosystem and societal stakeholders. This year, we will again gather professionals from all around the world to engage in topics regarding the three main themes of: regional impact to global impact, transdisciplinarity and business engagement.

In 2017 AESIS organised the very first international conference on Societal Impact of Social Science, Humanities and Arts (SSHA) in Cardiff, bringing together stakeholders such as research managers, administrators, evaluators, policy makers, funders, entrepreneurs, publishers, NGO’s, media and many more. During this conference they exchanged experiences and good practices in order to catalyse developments in strategies, policies, methods, tools and approaches that were being used to make sure that SSHA, in collaboration with societal stakeholders and other disciplines, could have the most positive and inclusive impact on wellbeing, culture, economy, environment, health, education, and all kinds of challenges that are being faced in the world.

Now 6 years later, after touring the conference to Copenhagen, Washington, Toronto, Brussels and Stockholm, we are extremely excited to be returning to where it all began!

AESIS is proud to announce that its next edition on ‘Impact of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts on Society’ will be hosted in Cardiff, UK, once more, and this year in partnership with UK Research and Innovation and Higher Education Funding Council for Wales. In this conference, we bring together research managers, science policymakers, funders, knowledge exchange experts, and other relevant professionals from all parts of the world to venture subjects such as:

  • How does cultural change have a social impact in the context of SSHA?
  • How do we foster the trust and credibility of SSHA in society?
  • What does impact mean in the context of different segments of society, and through which robust and valid indicators can you assess it?
  • How can the path to impact be made more accessible, and which skills can enable one to optimise impact inter-sectoral collaboration for the sake of the public as a whole?
  • How to better understand the impact in the face of societal challenges such as climate change, health, diversity and conflict?
  • And much more!

After editions in Cardiff, Copenhagen, Washington, Toronto, Brussels, and Stockholm, we are thrilled to bring this cross-sectoral conversation on the Societal Impact of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts back to where it all started, in Cardiff. AESIS are excited to welcome you to the ‘Impact of Social Sciences, Humanities & Arts 2023’ conference.
