We are excited to be hosting our first online conference on ‘’Digital Transition and Societal Impact of Science’’, with a focus on AI impact, Big Data and other innovations. Our goal is two-fold:
First, we intend to delve into how digital innovations can revolutionise the way scientific research is accessed, communicated and applied. This includes examining how these technologies can enhance the accessibility of research findings, making them more readily available to a broader audience, including policymakers, industry professionals, and the general public. We also wish to explore how AI and Big Data can support the conceptualization and operationalization of impact pathways of research, ultimately accelerating positive change in society. Furthermore, these innovations also provide new opportunities for assessing impact that can be explored. Of course, we will also discuss the pitfalls and challenges that come along with these opportunities.
Second, we will critically assess the challenges and opportunities of digital innovation in society, how this may reshape the relationship between technology, science, and the public, and the role of (social) sciences and humanities to help society with the challenges digital transitions bring about. We will discuss potential evidence-informed policymaking to guide these rapid developments to limit potential dangers and discuss ways to strengthen public trust.
This conference aims to accelerate positive developments, by discussing, sharing, and taking action to play a more prominent role and help support technologies addressing global challenges, such as climate change, healthcare, and education, and how they can be harnessed to create a more equitable and impactful future.
